Contributing to a Mask-Wearing Culture

There have been many changes to our daily lives in the past few months, but we are all learning to adapt to help protect our community and be able to function in this new normal. As a medical professional, you can help your community embrace wearing a mask as children go back to school and more people go back to work. You can create influence in your community and use your platform and voice to encourage mask-wearing, and show patients and parents that their child is capable of wearing a mask.

Educate Your Community & Stress the Importance of Wearing a Mask

There is a lot of information circulating about the importance of masks and the effectiveness of certain types of masks over others. It can be exhausting for parents to keep track of all of this and stay up to date on the latest news regarding mask-wearing and other local regulations. You can help take some of the burden off and ease your patients’ minds by providing your insight and recommendations as a trained, experienced medical professional. Plus, SmileMakers has a variety of fun, comfortable masks that you can keep in your office to hand out to your patients as well as KN95 masks to keep you and your staff safe.

Masks People look to figures of authority, especially during trying times. Since you have hands-on experience with wearing personal protective equipment on a daily basis, and a captive audience when they’re in your chair, you are uniquely qualified to help educate your patients on the importance of wearing a mask. Set a good example by telling (and showing) them how simple it is to wear a mask and how much of a positive impact it can have on their community. Show your patients how to safely put on, wear, and take off a mask. You’ll be helping to contribute to a healthy mask-wearing culture as well as presenting your practice in a positive light as you step forward to be a leader in your community.

Utilize Your Marketing Tools and Platforms

Instructing your patients while they’re in your office is great, but to take it one step further, you can use your online presence to spread accurate information about masks. Here are a few ways to use your marketing tools to get that important message (and your name) out to the masses:

  1. Post a blog- Do you have a blog page on your website? Write a blog or ask your marketing team to write a blog about the importance of wearing a mask. You can even include links to your recommended sites for buying personal masks.
  2. Use social media- Post on Instagram and Facebook to connect with your patients and others. Plus, this allows them to repost and share your information with their followers! You can post a link to your blog, a photo of yourself or your staff wearing masks around town, and challenge your patients to post their own mask pics and tag your practice.
  3. Create a how-to video- A picture is worth a thousand words, but video content is even more powerful! Create a video for your patients to reference instructing them on how to put on masks. You can even make a video just for kids to ensure they know how to put on their own mask so parents can feel confident about sending them back to school safely. Be sure to post these on your social media sites too!
